JESSIE HINES LEONARD, 67
AUSTINTOWN -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in New Bethel Baptist Church, Youngstown, for Jessie Hines Leonard, 67, of 4594 Woodhurst Drive, who died of cancer Monday evening in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. She had been ill seven months.
Mrs. Leonard was born July 1, 1933, in Newport News, Va., a daughter of Lettie M. and Effie Mae Hines, and moved to Youngstown in 1954. She was retired from Western Reserve Care System, where she had worked 33 years as a certified operating-room technician.
She was a member of the church, where she served as a deaconess, taught Sunday school classes and was a past director of the church children's choir. She also was secretary for the Northern Ohio Baptist District Association Congress.
A gifted speaker and vocalist, she sang with the James Cleveland Singers and the Saffold Singers, gospel singing groups, during a brief stay in New York City. She also sang with Kenny Eldridge and the Jesus Celebration Mass Choir of Youngstown.
Besides her stepfather, Thomas W. Gravell of Youngstown, she leaves her husband, Fred F. Sr., whom she married in 1968; four daughters, JoAnne L. Lyons of Youngstown, Yvonne J. Smith and Kathryn V. Williams, both of Campbell, and Lisa M. Taylor of Los Angeles; three sons, Kim N. Hines, Fred F. Leonard Jr. and David T.F. Leonard, all of Youngstown; a sister, Catherine Parker of New Castle, Del.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call one hour before services in the church. Arrangements are by Black & amp; Phillips Funeral Home.
