COG members give up their voting rights
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Four municipal members of the Mercer County Regional Council of Governments have opted to give up their council voting rights, choosing to become associate members instead of full voting members.
The change will make it easier for the COG executive board to have a quorum at its monthly meetings, said James DeCapua, executive director.
The board voted to create the associate member status in February, and Jackson Center, Greene Township, Delaware Township and West Salem Township all opted for the lesser status.
They can still participate in all COG programs but won't have to send anyone to the executive board meetings and won't have a vote on COG issues.
The executive board approved the changes Wednesday, and at the same time accepted Wilmington Township as the 23rd member of the organization.
Wilmington is coming on as a full-voting member.
The board also voted to grant New Vernon Township an associate, non-voting membership as a new member, and DeCapua said French Creek and Millcreek townships are also interested in joining under that status.
