BROOKFIELD Policy pleases school official

The board also approved supplemental contracts for some employees.
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield Superintendent Joseph White said he will try to persuade board members to expand the district's open-enrollment policy.
Forty-eight students attended Brookfield schools though open enrollment this school year.
"Open enrollment brought $208,000 to us this year," White said. "I'd like to see us bring in even more students" for the 2001-2002 school year.
The board also discussed working with the community to upgrade the high school weight room at its Wednesday night session.
"We once had a premier top-of-line weight room," said board member Joseph Raykie. "I know most games are won because of a student's continued commitment to get stronger. I believe updating the weight room is important."
The board also approved Tammy Taylor to serve as middle school secretary at $10.47 per hour effective Monday.
Contracts set: Supplemental contracts were awarded to teachers Ernie Falhamer as ski club adviser at $758, and Bob Wolfe and Shawn Hammond as assistant track coaches at $1,272 each.
The board also awarded supplemental contracts to teachers Marty McCabe, Walt Nogay, Hammond and Keith Joseph as assistant football coaches at $3,458; Randy Clark as assistant football coach at $3,179; and nonclassified employees Jed Detelich, Terry Swogger, Bob Rodgers and Jim Harkulich as seasonal workers at $7 an hour. Bobby Jones will volunteer as an assistant football coach.
In other business, the board approved a field trip to Niagra Falls for the sixth-grade class May 18; reminded parents that kindergarten screening will be April 10-11 for new students for the 2001-2002 school year; and set Sept. 4 as the first day of classes for 2001-2002 school year and June 5, 2002, as the last day of classes.
