3 face federal charges of counterfeiting



PITTSBURGH -- Two Lawrence County men and an Armstrong County woman were indicted Wednesday in U.S. Federal Court here on counterfeiting charges.
The eight-count indictment named Gerald Calvin Murberger III, 19, of Mount Jackson Road, Enon Valley; Jeremiah Zane Bish, 19, of R.D. 1, Box 28A, #16, Enon Valley; and Jamie Leigh Smith, 19, of White Cloud Road, Leechburg, as defendants.
According to the indictment, Murberger and Bish manufactured the counterfeit United States currency last Sept. 27 or 28. They then divided it up and gave some to Smith to spend.
The three passed the counterfeit currency at various businesses in the New Castle area, federal prosecutors said. Murberger and Bish could face up to 45 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million or both. Smith faces up to 40 years in prison, a $1 million fine or both.
The U.S. Secret Service, and New Castle and Shenango police conducted the investigation.
