YOUNGSTOWN -- A committee searching for a new vice president for financial affairs at Youngstown State University has narrowed the field to three.
The following candidates will visit YSU in April:
U Dr. Richard Bebee, business dean at Salisbury State University in Maryland.
U James Fletcher, a private consultant and former vice president for business and finance at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
U Richard White, controller of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
"We think we have excellent candidates," said Dr. Betty Jo Licata, YSU business dean, who is leading the 11-member search committee.
Licata said the committee, which received 50 applications, expects to recommend up to three finalists to President David Sweet, who will make the final selection.
The board of trustees created the new position in December to oversee YSU's budget, payroll, accounting, audit, investment and other fiscal functions, as well as state funding issues.
Provost search: Meanwhile, a committee searching for a new provost has received 37 applications.
Dr. George McCloud, YSU dean of fine and performing arts and chairman of the provost search committee, said he is pleased with the number and quality of applicants.
He said the committee plans to recommend five or six finalists to Sweet by April 6. The finalists will be invited to campus interviews.
Dr. James Scanlon, YSU's provost and second-in-command since 1992, left YSU this month to become president of Missouri Western State College.
Other open posts: Sweet said YSU also is searching for a new executive director of human resources and labor relations, athletic director, registrar and directors of admissions and financial aid.
"Overall, let me say that I am pleased with the level of interest we are finding from around the country in open positions," Sweet said.
