JOHN P. CHOMOS, 80



MASURY -- Services were at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Bernadette Catholic Church for John P. Chomos, 80, of 7919 Third St., who died Sunday in Specialty Hospital of Mahoning Valley in Youngstown after a brief illness.
Mr. Chomos, who was also known as "Jack," was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Seminole, Pa., a son of Andrew and Mary Shinko Chomos.
He was a foreman for General American Transportation Corp. (GATX).
He was a graduate of Brookfield High School and served in the Army's 717th Tank Battalion during World War II, where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant and received several decorations.
He was a member of the church and a charter member and a past commander of Masury VFW 8860. He also was a member of Masury Knights of Columbus 3984, Wheatland American Legion 432 and New Castle Musician's Union Local 21. He was a former coach in the Brookfield Babe Ruth League and Shenango Valley Varsity League.
His wife, the former Helen M. Hampton, whom he married Dec. 18, 1943, died Sept. 8, 2000.
He leaves two sons, George S. and Joseph P., both of Brookfield; a daughter, Paula K. Coon of Hubbard; a brother, Stephen of Williamsfield; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Three brothers, Andrew, Frank and William, and two sisters, Julie Nagy and Mary Kish, are deceased.
