HORACE SMITH SR., 90



WARREN -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sibley-Murray Funeral Home for Horace Smith Sr., 90, of 202 Washington St. N.W., who died March 15 at Washington Square Nursing Center.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Goshen, Ala., a son of Bibb and Pearlie M. Salters Smith.
He was a roller for Great Lakes Steel in Detroit for 30 years before retiring in 1971. He also was a 40-year member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Detroit, where he served on the usher board.
His wife, Bernice, whom he married Jan. 14, 1946, died July 17, 2000.
He leaves two sons, Lamar of Albany, Ga., and Ronald of Detroit; a daughter, Muriel Mahan of Inglewood, Calif.; a granddaughter whom he adopted and reared, Valerie Smith of Los Angeles; two sisters, Ada Wardell of Detroit and Ruby Burke of Troy, Ala.; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Three sons, John, L.C. and Horace Jr., and three brothers, Izell, Benjamin and Ervin, are deceased.
Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home.
