The Wolfpack (22-10) reached the regional semifinals for the 10th time under coach Kay Yow. Carisse Moody led the way with 22 points and Tynesha Lewis scored 21. Courtney Mix led Villanova (22-9) with 15.
MIDEAST
Tennessee 92, St. Mary's 75
St. Mary's (26-6) led much of the first half and trailed just 65-62 with 13:27 left. Semeka Randall then scored five points in a 7-2 run that gave Tennessee (31-2) some breathing room, and the Vols built on their lead as the Gaels tired.
Kara Lawson led five Tennessee players in double figures with 17 points. Jermisha Dosty led St. Mary's with 18. Her twin sister, Jerkisha, scored 17.
Texas Tech 73, Virginia Tech 52
Held to 18 points in the first half, Texas Tech (25-6) used a 55-point second half to reach the round of 16 for the third straight year. Plenette Pierson led the Raiders with a career-high 28 points. Tere Williams scored 17 for Virginia Tech (21-9).
Purdue 73, LSU 70
Purdue (28-6) needed Katie Douglas' two free throws at the end to hold on after LSU, which trailed by 24 in the first half, got within one. Douglas finished with 21 points, while Marie Ferdinand matched her career high of 34 for LSU (20-11).
"We dug ourselves a 10-foot hole and only had a 9-foot ladder," LSU coach Sue Gunter said.
Xavier 77, Clemson 62
Nicole Levandusky scored 19 points and Reetta Piipari hit three 3-pointers in a 12-2 run that gave Xavier (30-2) the lead for good. Chrissy Floyd's 24 points led Clemson (21-10).
MIDWEST
Iowa St. 85, Florida State 70
Megan Taylor backed Welle with 22 points and Iowa State (27-5) used a triangle-and-two defense to shut down Florida State's two stars, holding April Traylor to 10 points and Brooke Wyckoff to eight. Katelyn Vujas led FSU (19-12) with 15 points.
