WARREN -- Detectives are continuing to investigate a double shooting that killed one man and critically injured another.
Police Chief John Mandopoulos said William Jarrett, 37, of the 2300 block of Burton Street S.E. was shot and killed around 1 a.m. Sunday at his home. Jarrett's friend, Nick Warfield, 24, no address available, was also shot and was in critical condition this morning at Cleveland MetroHealth Center.
Mandopoulos said that Jarrett and a group of friends were in Jarrett's home playing cards when Jarrett and Warfield went outside to meet someone.
"I believe they were outside for only a few minutes when they were shot," Mandopoulos said. Jarrett was found in his front yard. Warfield was able to crawl away and get someone to call for help, Mandopoulos said.
Details sketchy: The chief noted that he does not know how many times either man was shot.
"Right now I don't even know what type of gun was used, but I'm hoping I will find out soon," the chief said.
The chief said that Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, a forensic pathologist with the Trumbull County Coroner's Office, performed an autopsy on Jarrett on Sunday, but the results are not yet available. Mandopoulos added that he has not been able to talk to Warfield or his doctors.
The chief and detectives said that no arrests have been made and that police have no suspects.
"Detectives spent most of Sunday talking to witnesses and neighbors to find out if anybody saw anything," the chief said.
Investigators will continue to talk to people today, the chief said.
"We don't have a lot of problems on Burton Street. It is usually a pretty good area," the chief said.
