YOUNGSTOWN -- Megan Mill, a student of the Lisa Czifra Piano Studio in Canfield, was awarded a 75-point gold cup and three others won 60-point cups at the annual Ohio Federation of Music Clubs district festival Saturday at Youngstown State University.
The gold cup is the highest award given, and the 60-point cup is second-highest. Megan, a Boardman High School senior, won for her solo and concerto performances and also played in the honors recital.
The 60-point cups went to Ariel Kessler, a student of Fanny DeDomenico Piano Studio in Boardman and a Boardman High junior; Maria Amicucci of Audrey Rhinehart Piano Studio in North Jackson and a junior at Howland High School; and Erin Best, a student of Carol Walters and a senior at Lakeview High School in Cortland.
Boy reports shots fired
CAMPBELL -- A 17-year-old Gordon Avenue boy has told police he believes he was shot at because he was wearing what may have been construed as gang colors.
The boy, who said he likes to wear blue, said he was shot at four times about 9:15 p.m. as he was walking home along Gordon. He identified two people in the car.
'Elvis' to perform
NORTH JACKSON -- Elvis is making the rounds in the Mahoning Valley. His next stop: Jackson-Milton High School.
Frank Fordeley, who owns Fordeley's Music and Instrument Repair in Champion, will dress as Elvis and bring his backup band, The Purple Gang, to the school Friday.
The first show is at 1 p.m., for students only. Students Against Driving Drunk will participate. A 7 p.m. show is open to the public free, but donations will be taken.
Spitzer Autoworld on Mahoning Avenue in North Jackson is sponsoring the shows.

Group to discuss grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Continuum of Care, an agency that provides help for the homeless, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Columba Hall, 144 W. Wood St.
There will be discussion of an grant application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The deadline for submitting grant applications is April 12.
Brown-Clark to speak
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sarah Brown-Clark, Youngstown clerk of courts, will speak at a National Women's Month program at noon March 28 in the DeBartolo Stadium Club at Youngstown State University.
Brown-Clark's topic is "Challenges Facing African-American Women in the Millennium."
A reception will follow.
Black economics

In serious condition
YOUNGSTOWN -- Randy K. Richardson could describe the ones who shot him only as "young kids." Richardson, 37, of Lilburne Avenue told police he was shot in his left side and right leg about 2:30 a.m. Sunday as he left a store in the 2600 block of Glenwood Avenue. He was in serious condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Drug, alcohol charges
COITSVILLE -- Police who staked out the Tic Tac Food Mart on McCartney Road on Friday night for possible liquor violations arrested Thomas M. Weidner, 19, of Hubbard.
Police said Weidner, of John White Road, bought beer at the store and, when searched, had drugs on him.
Weidner was arrested on charges of underage possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was being held in the county jail without bond pending arraignment Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court.
