COLUMBIANA CORNER Has a tiger visited the Lions yet?
There were oohs, aahs and many questions when Nook, a 200-pound Siberian tiger from Noah's Lost Ark animal sanctuary in Berlin Center, visited Timberlanes restaurant last week for Salem Area Christian Women's Club meeting.
Owners Ellen and Doug Whitehouse said the 10-month-old big cat has so far made about a half-dozen visits to area service clubs, prompting one guest to ask, "Has he been to the Lions Club yet?"
Just in case: Judge Thomas Baronzzi of Columbiana County Juvenile Court wants his employees to be prepared for medical emergencies.
Judge Baronzzi is having 17 of his staff members trained this week in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the American Red Cross' Salem Chapter.
The judge said he felt it important to have staff members prepared for emergencies at the court building, which receives about 400 visitors a week.
Poster contest: The Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office is inviting area elementary, junior high and high school students to participate in a National Crime Victims' Rights Week poster contest.
Entries should promote the rights week, which is set for April 22-28. Poster themes considered acceptable include crime prevention, public safety and holding criminals accountable.
Entries must be received at the prosecutor's office no later than 4 p.m. April 18.
They will be displayed at the courthouse during crime victims' week. Winners will be announced during a courthouse program set for April 27.
For more information, contact the prosecutor's office at (330) 420-0140.
