WILLIAM J. STOUFFER, 78



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Services will be at noon Monday in William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel for William J. Stouffer, 78, of 7 N. Wayne St., who died Friday afternoon in Sunnyview Nursing Home in Butler, Pa.
Mr. Stouffer was born Aug. 2, 1992, in Lowellville, a son of Fred and Minnie Allhouse Stouffer.
He worked for East Fairfield Coal Co. in North Lima 20 years as a welder.
He was a 20-year Army veteran, attaining the rank of master sergeant and serving in World War II and the Korean War before retiring in 1962. A tank gunner and tank commander, he received the Purple Heart, four Bronze Stars, and a Korean Service Medal with four battle stars.
He is also a former member of Mahoning Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife, the former Esther M. Thompson, whom he married Feb. 12, 1948; two daughters, Nancy Ryan and Patty West of New Castle; a brother, Joseph of Lowellville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Five brothers, Charles, James, Richard, Robert and Eugene, as well as two sisters, Margaret Stouffer and Viola Genova, are deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home. Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
