Gander Mountain plans 'turkey university'
Gander Mountain on Niles Cortland Road in Niles will host a "Turkey University" March 31 at the story.
The seminar on turkey hunting will include Brian Banbury and Reno Reda from the Ohio Division of Wildlife, Roger Prior and Bob Hill on hunter safety, John Pflueger from Quaker Boy, a taxidermy display by Paul Schiller and a display by the Thundering Toms, a local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
There will also be drawings for NWTF memberships, a guided turkey hunt and turkey accessory packages with turkey cookers, spices, decoys, vests, calls, radios and more.
There will also be a turkey calling contest as well as servings of deep-fried turkey throughout the day.

Seminar covershigh-power rifles
The Youngstown Rifle & amp; Pistol Club will host an M-1 Rifle Clinic at 8 a.m. April 21
The clinic will involve shooting a 50-round national match course that will satisfy the shooting requirement toward purchase of a government surplus M1. The course will be shot at 200-yards with reduced targets for the 300 and 600-yard stages. Rifles and ammunition will be supplied and participants should bring a spotting scope, shooting mat and eye and ear protection.
Subjects will include safety, terminology, proper sling use, rules, coaching, sign alignment, shooting positions, equipment, reading the wind, and zeroing

The club will also host the John C. Garand Match April 22, open to members of any CMP club, YP & amp;R Club, NRA or USA Shooting. Cost of the match is $20 for adults and $10 for those 18 and younger.

BOATING
Canoe event slated
The Keel-Haulers Canoe Club will sponsor the 33rd Annual Vermilion River Canoe Race March 25.
The 8-mile event will start at Schoepfle Gardens in Birmingham, state Route 113, Lorain County, and end up at the Vermilion River Reservation near Vermilion. The race is sanctioned by the U.S. Canoe Association.
Race starting times are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and there will be 17 classes for canoes and kayaks.
