Also on Friday, YSU trustees:
Approved construction of a $3.27 million building behind Bliss Hall, which houses the College of Fine and Performing Arts. The building, which would house sculpture and painting studios, will be paid for with state capital improvement funds, including $670,000 initially set aside for renovations for Fedor Hall. Originally, YSU planned to lop off about one-third of Wick Oval behind Bliss Hall for the new building. The final plan calls for moving the building directly behind Bliss and leaving the oval intact.
Hired John Habat as special assistant to President David Sweet. When Sweet came to YSU in July, he hired Habat on a six-month contract. On Friday, trustees granted Habat permanent employment at an annual salary of $110,000.
Received a recommendation from the board's committee on trusteeship to reduce the number of board committees from 10 to six and allow all nine trustees to serve on each committee. "We have a very active board, and we all want to be active on all committees," trustee Chairwoman Ruth Wilkes said. Trustees will vote on the recommendation in June.
Approved a resolution thanking Trustee Bruce Beeghly for his nine years on the board. Beeghly, whose term expires this spring, served under three YSU presidents and was the board's chairman for two years.
