WALTER STEVEN LINDER, 86



SALEM -- Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Emmanuel Lutheran Church here for Walter Steven Linder, 86, of Heartside Drive, who died Wednesday evening at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a patient for one week.
Mr. Linder was born April 22, 1914, in Salem, a son of Michael and Matilda Malleck Linder, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Mullins Manufacturing for 42 years and retired in 1974. He was also caretaker of Salem Saxon Country Club for 36 years and retired in 1994.
He was a member of the church, Salem Saxon Club Branch 19 where he was a member of its baseball and basketball teams, Saxon Retirees group, and the retirees golf league at Hide-a-Way Golf Course, where he hit a hole-in-one.
A 1932 graduate of Salem High School, he attended Salem Trades School and received a degree in forestry. He was an outdoorsman.
Besides his wife, the former Genevieve A. Fischer, whom he married Aug. 24, 1940, he leaves six daughters, Phyllis Linder of Wildwood, Fla., Carol Kaiser of Silver Spring, Md., and Darlene Bach of Dayton, and Bonnie Schramm, Marlene Elliott and Sandy Capel, all of Salem; two sisters, Mary Ann Roth of Salem and Hermina Weisser of Marysville, Ind.; a brother, Albert of Salem; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A sister, Matilda Moore, and three brothers, Michael, Herman and Rudy, are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the church elevator fund or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman 44512.
