PACKARD MUSEUM Exhibit features vintage cycles

The exhibit opens to the public Saturday and ends April 20.
WARREN -- Antique motorcycles built between the 1920s and 1950s are part of the newest display at Packard Museum on Mahoning Avenue Northwest.
Museum spokeswoman Heather Aubel said a private showing was expected to be tonight for bike owners and the museum's membership.
The exhibit will open to the public Saturday and runs through April 20.
Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
About 30 vintage motorcycles will be displayed, along with information about each of them.
Family photo: Aubel said a picture will be displayed of Packard family members standing next to a motorized bike they bought at Thumm's cycle and clock shop at 330 W. Market St.
Brothers J.W. and W.D. Packard founded Packard Electric Co. and Packard Motor Car Co. in Warren in the 1890s. Packard Electric Co. is the predecessor of Delphi Packard Electric Systems, with plants in the area.
The Packards manufactured their first automobile here in 1899 -- numbers that reflect the museum's street address and the last four digits of its phone number.
When special exhibits are not planned, the museum displays various models and makes of Packard automobiles, some of which are on loan and some that are owned by the museum.
The Packard family is honored each year with a car show, which is scheduled this year for July 20-22.
