State rejects application for tax break

THE VINDICATOR, YOUNGSTOWN
WARREN -- The Ohio Department of Development has rejected a Warren company's plan for a tax abatement to move from the city to Weathersfield Township.
Weathersfield Township trustees had approved a 75 percent tax abatement for 10 years for Specialty Pipe and Tube Co., Martin Luther King Boulevard S.W.
The company plans to build a 12,000-square-foot building near the corner of Seaborn and Union Street in Weathersfield. A company official, who would not give his name, said the company still plans to relocate to Weathersfield despite the state rejection.
Daryl Hennessy, manager of the office of tax incentives for the Ohio Department of Development, said the abatement was turned down because the company didn't demonstrate that it had considered locating out of state.
The company employs 25 full-time people and plans an investment of $1.51 million in construction, machinery and equipment and new inventory, according to information presented to Trumbull County commissioners.
