St. Nick's will be site of 4 kindergartens

STRUTHERS -- Four kindergarten classes will be taught in the basement of St. Nicholas Church next year as pupils are moved to various other sites from Lyon Plat Elementary School, which will demolished and replaced by a new Central Elementary School.
Superintendent Sandi DiBacco said the board of education exhausted all options in its search to house pupils during the project before deciding on the church site. "St. Nick's is actually pretty centrally located," she said. The Rev. Phillip Rogers offered the facility, located on Fifth Street, free of charge.
The board also considered the former Stambaugh Hardware building in Fifth Street Plaza, among others.
DiBacco said wiring the facility for computers is the main upgrading that staff members will work on this summer.
The superintendent said the dislocation of pupils "will all go away in September 2002; they'll all be going to the same school."
