MASURY -- Services will be at 10:25 a.m. Friday at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home, Sharon, and at 11 a.m. in Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, for James A. Vellente, 79, of 1815 Sharon Hogue Road, who died Saturday night in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.
Mr. Vellente, known as "Merps," was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Farrell, a son of John and Mary Capson Vellente.
He graduated in 1939 from Farrell High School, served in the Army during World War II, and worked 43 years for Sharon Steel Corp., and retired as a foreman in 1982. He was a member of the church and Wheatland American Legion Post 432.
He leaves a daughter, Pamela Fanone of Masury; three sisters, Sara Tobias of Cleveland, Dolly Watts in Florida and Donna Booth of Akron; a brother, John J. of Farrell; and a granddaughter.
Three brothers, Joseph, Louis and Frankie, are deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted at St. Anthony Cemetery in Hermitage.
