ALICE D. BYER, 74



NEWTON FALLS -- Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church for Alice D. Byer, 74, of 4786 Spencer Ave., who died of congestive heart failure Wednesday morning in Laurie Ann Nursing Home.
Mrs. Byer was born May 18, 1926, in Mercer, Pa., a daughter of James L. and Veronica Walsh McGowan. She moved to Newton Falls in 1967 from Lake Milton.
She worked for Ravenna Arsenal, Polson Rubber, Cleveland Cut Flowers, Edgewater Nursing Home and Falls Variety Store before retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the church and VFW Auxiliary, which presented her with the Woman of the Year Award. She enjoyed reading and bingo.
Besides her husband, William, whom she married Aug. 11, 1945, she leaves a daughter, Veronica Johnson of Newton Falls; three sons, Kevin T. of Leavittsburg, Carl J. of Warren and Martin J. of Southington; a sister, Dorothy Snyder of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Joseph G. McGowan of Slippery Rock, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Mildred Bell and Marge Genge; two brothers, James L. and Patrick W.; a grandchild and a great-grandchild are deceased.
