VETERANS
Medal eligibility
Veterans who served in the Armed Forces between June 25, 1950, and July 27, 1953, and meet certain other criteria, are eligible for the Korean War Service Medal offered by the Republic of Korea. A regulation which prohibited the wearing of foreign medals was lifted in 1954. Other criteria include serving on permanent duty for 30 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days, performing duty within the territorial boundaries of Korea, waters immediately adjacent to or in aerial flight over Korea during the time period designated. Also, veterans must furnish a copy of their discharge papers (DD 214) as proof of eligibility.
