NELO A. NIEMI, 80



WARREN -- Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home for Nelo A. Niemi, 80, of 2040 Woodland Ave. N.E., who died of a heart attack Saturday morning in Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Niemi, also known as "Nick," was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Warren, a son of Matthew E. and Minimini Niemi, and lived in the area most of his life.
He was an architectural engineer for Packard Electric for 25 years before retiring in 1992. Before that, he had been an architect for a firm in Youngstown.
He received his degree in architecture from Ohio University.
He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theater. He worked on the Soap Box Derby and enjoyed fishing, traveling and building homes.
Besides his wife, the former Dorothy L. Schultz, whom he married June 10, 1950, he leaves three sons, Ronald D. of Cortland, Karl A. of Warren and John L. of Chicago; a daughter, Lori B. Niemi of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Esther Cox and Miriam Niemi, both of Bazetta; a brother, Edwin of Cortland; and a grandson, Shawn E. of Houston, Texas.
A brother, Arne, is deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the church.
