JOHN A. MAJERNIK, 87
CANFIELD -- Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter & amp; Paul Croatian Catholic Church, both in Youngstown, for John A. Majernik, 87, of 3651 McCarty Drive, who died of congestive heart failure Friday evening at home.
Mr. Majernik, also known as "Yank," was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Youngstown, a son of John and Anna Prejs Majernik.
He was a pipe cutter in the electric weld department of Republic Steel for 36 years and was a custodian for the Canfield school system for 10 years before retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the church and United Steelworkers of America Local 1331.
Besides his wife, the former Mary A. Zunic, whom he married Jan. 14, 1939, he leaves five sons, John, Leo, William and James, all of Canfield, and Leonard of North Lima; two daughters, Barbara Simeo of Palantine, Ill., and Frances Hurayt of Austintown; a sister, Josephine DiOrio of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, William and Victor, and a sister, Mary Fedchinia, are deceased.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the church renovation fund.
