FARRELL, Pa. -- A hearing for the transfer of a liquor license from the Farrell Inn to the owners of another area bar has been continued to allow the bar owners and opponents time to work out a settlement.
Mayor William Morocco declined to disclose specifics on recent discussions between the city, which is protesting the transfer, and James and Barbara Hardesty, owners of Roamers Bar at 204 Roemer Blvd. But Morocco said he is hopeful a compromise will be worked out within the next several weeks.
Morocco said the hearing, which was scheduled for Thursday morning in Erie, was continued indefinitely.
Opposition: The city and area resident Thelma Robinson of Darr Avenue both filed letters of opposition to the transfer from the inn, at 300 Roemer Blvd., to the Hardestys. The Hardestys want to buy the inn and rename it Roamers Too, operating both bars.
The city and Robinson have opposed the plan, maintaining that people coming out of the bar have caused problems in the neighborhood and there is evidence of drug abuse, violence and underage drinking. The city sent the state liquor control board a petition signed by 100 people opposed to the license transfer.
