MCDONALD School board to seek bids for $7.9 million renovation

McDONALD -- Bids will be sought later this month for two phases of the $7.9 million renovation of McDonald High School.
The village school board recently asked the Ohio School Facilities Commission to approve the district's overall plan for renovations at the school and the specific plans related to asbestos abatement and the heating system.
Superintendent Robert Bloniarz said the board hopes to gain quick approval of the plans so that the district can advertise for bids by March 26.
Plans are to start work May 1 on the heating system package, which will include removal of suspected asbestos in one of the boilers, and installation of a hot water heating system.
June 15 is the target date for starting the second phase of work planned: the renovation of eight classrooms, which officials hope to have done in time for the start of classes Aug. 24.
About funds: Bloniarz noted that nearly one-half of the cost of work at the high school is expected to go into heating, air conditioning, lighting and electrical work.
The commission has given the district $14.5 million, and the district borrowed $2 million via a 23-year bond issue to renovate the high school, build a new elementary school at an estimated cost of $7.5 million and demolish Roosevelt Elementary at an expected cost of $900,000.
