IVA MAE LONG, 91 Taught in Hubbard, Liberty, Youngstown
HUBBARD -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Iva Mae Long, 91, of 232 Grandview Ave., who died Tuesday evening in Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a short illness.
Mrs. Long was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Youngstown, a daughter of Thomas and Ruth Halliday Long, moving to Hubbard in 1913.
Mrs. Long taught for 25 years in the Hubbard, Liberty and Youngstown school systems before retiring in 1975.
She was a 1932 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in education. She owned and operated a gift shop in Hubbard from 1956 to 1960.
Mrs. Long was a member of First Presbyterian Church and belonged to its Rachel Circle.
She was a life member of and very active in the Republican Party. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star 758 of Hubbard, the Hubbard Historical Society, Hubbard Women's Golf League, Hubbard Garden Club and Youngstown Symphony Guild. She was a charter member of the Reagan Task Force and the American Security Council. She was an avid bridge player. Her husband, William H., whom she married April 4, 1940, died Jan. 12, 1966.
She leaves a son, Thomas E. of Chagrin Falls; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A son, William H., is deceased. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the William H. Long Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
