Authorities seek 2 men
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department is looking for two men who have failed to register as sexual offenders.
Detective Rick Tackett says Jerry J. Merten, 33, of Freeman Street Northwest and Daniel T. Hillier, 32, of Poplar Street, Girard, have failed to register with the department.
Failing to register as a sexual offender is a felony.
Detectives said they need to contact the men and find out why that have not registered.
Merten was found guilty in March 1999 of one count of gross sexual imposition. He served 18 months in prison and was to register as a sexual offender by Jan. 13.
Hillier was convicted of a count of gross sexual imposition in June 1996. He was released from prison late last year and was to register by Jan. 11, officials said.
Threat reported
BOARDMAN -- A township woman told police her son's life was threatened by another pupil while riding a school bus home from Boardman Center Middle School.
The woman, of Wildwood Drive, told police the pupil said Wednesday that he was going to either slit her son's wrist or throat. The woman's son said the boy is known to carry or frequently display a switchblade, police reports said.
The boy had been threatening or harrassing her son and her daughter while at school, and was ultimately suspended for those actions, the woman said. He has returned to classes, however.

Forney, whose term expires in December 2003, said during a regular school board meeting Thursday that he could no longer serve as a school director because of time constraints. His resignation is effective immediately. School board president Harry Flannery announced earlier this week he will not seek re-election in May. Board member Gary Clobus also will not seek re-election.
Boys get probation
LISBON -- Four Calcutta boys are to serve probation for their role in a Jan. 16 vandalism spree that resulted in thousands of dollars' worth of damage.
The boys, ages 6, 8, 9 and 12, were sentenced Thursday in Columbiana County Juvenile Court after admitting their crimes.
Authorities say the boys used BB guns to shoot out windows in six cars stored outside a Calcutta-area residence. At another home in the same area, they shot out windows, broke in and did damage inside the residence.
The length of the probation they must serve is indefinite.
