ALFRED MERLE EWING, 84 Owned, operated Ewing's Greenhouse



HANOVERTON -- Services were Sunday in Port Charlotte, Fla., for Alfred Merle Ewing, 84, of Port Charlotte, formerly of Hanoverton, who died Feb. 28 in Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Fla.
Mr. Ewing was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Winona, Ohio. He moved to Port Charlotte from the Hanoverton area 22 years ago.
He owned and operated Ewing's Greenhouse, and had been a school bus driver and a machinist at Haltec of Salem.
He served in the Marines during World War II and was a member of American Legion post 684, First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte, Sandy Valley Masonic lodge 408, the Hanoverton Ruritan Club and the Hanoverton Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his wife, the former Gladys C. Edgerton, he leaves a son, Dana M. of New London, Conn.; a brother, Lowell R. of Salem; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Local arrangements were by Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home in Salem.
