NILES Council OKs restroom restoration resolution

Construction on a project to alleviate erosion on Mill Creek Drive is expected to start by late summer.
NILES -- City council approved a resolution to improve restroom facilities at Stevens Park.
The resolution passed at Wednesday's meeting earmarked $17,700 for the project.
"The soccer league will pay $10,000 to the restroom project," said Mayor Ralph A. Infante. "We'll be responsible for plumbing and for handicapped accessibility."
Mill Creek erosion: In other business, council approved another step to move forward a project to alleviate erosion on Mill Creek Drive.
The resolution authorizes Infante to file an application and Samuel Natoli, service director, to execute contracts for the Issue 2 program.
The city received a $100,000 state Issue 2 grant to control erosion along Mill Creek Drive. The $170,000 project involves installation of a 36-inch storm-sewer pipe in the water course running through properties that front Mill Creek.
Erosion in that area has exposed a natural gas line owned by BP Oil Pipeline Co. of Warren. The city will pay $35,000 toward the project with BP paying the remaining $35,000. The line will run from state Route 46 to Old Forge Road.
Mark Hess, city grants, engineering and development coordinator, said the legislation is a formality to demonstrate the city's commitment to spend its portion of the project.
"Hopefully, we'll be started in construction by late summer," Hess said.
The city board of control approved spending $18,000 to Environmental Design Group of Akron to handle the engineering for the project.
