CHAMPION -- Services will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Orthodox Church for Andy Ferko, 86, of 355 Durst Drive N.W., who died Tuesday night in Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.
Mr. Ferko was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Pittsburgh, a son of John and Sophia Katurnia Ferko, coming to Warren in 1939.
He retired in 1978 from Copperweld Steel Corp.'s conditioning department, where he worked as a scarfer for more than 37 years.
He was a member of the church, where he had served as vice president of the church and volunteered as a cook for church functions. He also was a member of the Slovak Club, Slovak Retirees, Copperweld Retirees and the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR). An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 83rd Armored Division in the European-African Theater and received the Purple Heart.
Besides his wife, the former Mary Molnar, whom he married Nov. 26, 1940, he leaves two sons, Andrew J. of Wilmington, N.C., and Ronald G. of Cortland; a brother, Alouszy Ferko of Freedmont, Poland, Europe; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, John and Wendel, and a sister, Mary Pogorelec, are deceased.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Peter Rossi & amp; Son Memorial Chapel, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friends also may call from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of services in the church.
