Novitiate begins
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Sister Barbara Heming began her novitiate with the Sisters of the Humility of Mary on Sunday with the Rite of Reception into the Novitiate in the Magnificat Chapel.
She's an active member of St. Edward Parish in Youngstown who was welcomed as a candidate by the sisters Oct. 16, 1999. During her 18-month candidacy, she continued her ministry as administrative assistant for EverGreen, an ecology and spirituality ministry of the sisters.
Sister Barbara is the daughter of Dr. Arthur E. Heming of Hudson and the late Hilda Clinton Heming. She completed her doctorate in Hispanic language and literature in 1975 at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She previously was an associate professor of Spanish at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Spanish Evangelical Church will feature La Orquestra Nissi, a salsa band from Cleveland, along with the Spanish Evangelical Choir at 11 a.m. Sunday. The event will be in both English and Spanish.

Divine Mercy Novena
NORTH JACKSON -- The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon will have a Divine Mercy Novena beginning Friday. Prayers will be said at 3 p.m. for six days. Then, for three days, prayers at 3 p.m. will be followed by spiritual talks and confessions with the Rev. Paul Ruge from North Dakota.
