HILDA M. SCOTT, 85

YOUNGSTOWN -- Memorial services will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis for Hilda M. Scott, 85, of North Hills Retirement Village, East Moline, Ill., formerly of Youngstown, who died Sunday in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Ill.
Mrs. Scott was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Bethlehem, Pa., a daughter of Hans Emil and Julia Carlson Melin. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kent State University and was a free-lance writer.
She served in the Coast Guard during World War II and worked toward the memorial for women who contributed to the World War II effort.
Her husband, William W., whom she married Nov. 6, 1945, died Dec. 6, 1988.
She leaves two sons, Larry of Rock Island and William of Marine-on-St. Croix, Minn.; and two granddaughters.
A sister, Margareta Minehart, is deceased.
The Larson Funeral Home in Rock Island handled arrangements.
