Teachers rally in Pa.
HARRISBURG (AP) -- Ringing bells and waving protest signs, thousands of teachers huddled under hoods and umbrellas as light snow fell took part in a public education rally Sunday outside the state Capitol building. The Pennsylvania State Education Association, the state's largest teachers' union, organized the rally on the Capitol steps to urge lawmakers to support its legislative agenda this year.
The union wants legislators to reduce class sizes, increase state funding for schools and set minimum passing scores for state assessment tests.
Capitol police estimated the crowd at 5,000.
