"We Are One," a new cookbook from heart disease survivor Carren Chamberlin, has been in great demand since an article about it appeared Jan. 9 in The Vindicator. Chamberlin, of New Waterford, said she has received a flood of phone calls and e-mails about her book, and each sale means more funding for her favorite cause -- The American Heart Association. She will sign copies of her book at The Dutch Cupboard in Columbiana from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 9. Bold broth
Boston Market roasted chicken broth from Heinz impressed Chicago Tribune tasters with its meaty, robust flavor. Reduced-sodium chicken broth and savory beef broth also are offered. A 14 1/2-ounce can costs $1.30 to $1.40 at most stores.
Better burgers
For the juiciest hamburgers, use a lighter touch when forming them. If the meat is over worked and crammed into a too tight patty, they render more during cooking. Form the meat into the desired shape (thicker is better) by gently tossing it from one hand to the other. Whether pan-frying or grilling, avoid the temptation to repeatedly squish the burger with a spatula, since that presses the juices out of the meat.
