TRUMBULL COUNTY YWCA plans 19th Children's Olympics

An open house and summer day camp activities are also being planned.
WARREN -- The YWCA's 19th annual Children's Olympics is planned for June 2.
Registration is $5 per child and will be open through May 26. T-shirts are guaranteed for children registered before May 19.
The event is open to Trumbull County pupils in grades one through six and will be at Mollenkopf Stadium at Warren G. Harding High School.
Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a parade at 9 a.m. and track and field events at 9:30 a.m.
Past Olympics have included events such as ball throwing, standing broad jump, races and obstacle courses.
Registration forms: About 15,000 registration forms have been sent out to area schools, but parents can pick up forms at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave.
Marjorie Dangaran, Olympics committee member and YWCA board member, said she expects 250 to 300 children will participate.
Olympic style gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the three boys and girls who place in each event. Trophies will be awarded to winners at each grade level.
Open house: A YWCA open house is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28. Free participation will be allowed in selected classes and demonstrations will be given, including one on karate.
Door prizes will be given and a drawing is planned with four three-month adult fitness packages as gifts. A clown will be on hand to entertain children.
The community should come dressed to participate in activities, and a supervised playroom will be available for children ages six months to 12 years.
The Y is also registering children ages 6-12 for summer day camp to be held June 11 to Aug. 24.
Children must have completed kindergarten to participate.
Weekly field trips are planned, along with daily educational and recreational activities, including the Muscular Dystrophy Hop-A-Thon, Chalk on the Walk, a planetarium and Inventure Place in Akron.
Sibling discounts are available and parents can register children the day of field trips. For information on registration fees, call 373-1010.
Space is limited to 100 children and registration forms are available at the YWCA.
