YOUNGSTOWN -- Actress Kate Mulgrew will join Dr. George McCloud, dean of Youngstown State University's College of Fine and Performing Arts, in a staged reading of the play "Dear Liar" at 8 p.m. April 25 in YSU Ford Theater. Tickets will go on sale April 1, and proceeds will go to University Theater scholarships.
"Dear Liar," by Jerome Kilty, is based on correspondence between the writer George Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell.
Mulgrew played Capt. Kathryn Janeway on the TV series "Star Trek: Voyager." Other credits include the TV programs "Ryan's Hope," "Kate Columbo" and "Heartbeat"; and the feature film "Throw Mama From the Train."
New Music Societyplans pops concerts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Premieres of works by Youngstown State University students will highlight the New Music Society's annual winter pops concerts.
The main concert will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Recital Hall. Other concerts are planned at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at Butler Institute of American Art and at 11 a.m. Friday at Bliss.
There will be performances by the Dana Composers Ensemble, Dana Rock Ensemble and YSU Gospel Choir. The Scherzo movement of String Quartet No. 1 by Jason Clark of Poland will be performed along with two other works by YSU students.
Heinz history centersalutes Old Glory
PITTSBURGH -- An American Flag Festival will be from Saturday to March 2 at Sen. John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, 1212 Smallman St.
On display will be nearly 200 original and reproduction historic flags from the American Revolution to the present, including rare flags from the War of 1812, the Civil War and World War II.

Warren chorus to beginrehearsals for concert
WARREN -- Rehearsals for the spring concert of "Messiah and More II" by the Warren Community Chorus will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic Street. The session will be two hours.
The chorus is open to anyone in the eighth grade and older. "Messiah" scores will be available to buy.

Viets Museum plansspring series programs
CORTLAND -- "Wives of Ohio Presidents," planned for 10 a.m. Feb. 19, will be the first program in the spring series, "Morning at the Museum," at the Viets Museum, 224 N. High St.
Ann Penman of Warren will discuss the lives of eight Buckeye State women who lived as first ladies in the White House.
The event includes a continental breakfast and tour of the museum, which is celebrating Presidents' Month with a display of American flags and presidential artifacts.
