'Seagull' ends park run
NEW YORK -- The starry Central Park revival of "The Seagull" with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline won't be flying to Broadway.
There had been reports that the Mike Nichols-directed production, which ended a four-week run Sunday, would move to the Lyceum Theatre in November with much of its big-name cast intact.
Yet Carol Fineman, a Public Theater spokesman, said schedules for the various actors could not be worked out. Crowds waited for hours in the park for tickets to the revival of the Chekhov play.
Missing: Burton's diary
The diary of the late Richard Burton, filled with his deepest thoughts about his first year of married life with Elizabeth Taylor, is missing.
The diary was among items lent to the BBC by the actor's widow, Sally, but it wasn't among the items returned to her in March. Scotland Yard has been called in to investigate, and theft is strongly suspected, according to wire reports.
