PREP SOFTBALL Southington wins on Byer's no-hitter



The Wildcats' standout struck out 10 in the 6-0 win over Lordstown.
SOUTHINGTON -- Southington's Lindsay Byer pitched a no-hitter against Lordstown and struck out 10 as the Wildcats opened their season Friday with a 6-0 victory over Lordstown.
Byer was also 2-for-2 with a double and single and she scored twice.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the second inning as Byer singled and scored on a double by Stephanie Hudak, who moved to third on a single by Haylie Meyers.
Hudak and Meyers then scored on fielder choices.
Chaney 17, Warren JFK 8: WARREN -- Chaney sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning as it scored seven runs to take a 10-0 lead.
In seven at-bats, Amanda Buzzacco walked three times, hit two singles, scored three times and drove in two runs.
Lyra Bezeredi hit a triple and single and drove in three runs and Angela Armstrong hit two singles for the Cowboys.
Mooney 2, Campbell 1: YOUNGSTOWN -- Sara Wright had three singles, two stolen bases and scored both runs for the Cardinals (2-0).
Mooney sophomore Kristen Laskowski made her first varsity start and got the win.
The Red Devils' record is 0-2.
Mineral Ridge 3, Western Reserve 0: MINERAL RIDGE -- Ashley Ault walked in the first inning and later scored the only run the Rams (3-0) needed, claiming their second Inter-County League victory.
Ault also struck out six and walked one en route to her third win. She hasn't allowed an earned run in three consecutive games.
Ault scored when Tiffany Hack singled. In the second inning, Allison Cottrell walked and Brandi McLean singled. Both advanced on a Stacy Siroki sacrifice, then Cottrell scored on a passed ball.
Lowellville 9, McDonald 5: LOWELLVILLE -- Missy Fredricks got the win and had three singles to lead the Rockets (1-1, 1-1 ICL).
Jen Balogh and Tami Nero each had a double for the Rockets, who scored six runs in the last of the sixth.
The Blue Devils' record is 0-2, 0-2.
