PREP PREVIEW Pennsylvania basketball
Who: Kennedy Catholic (27-4) vs. Scotland School (31-3).
What: PIAA Class-A state championship.
When: Friday, 3 p.m.
Where: Hersheypark Arena, Hershey, Pa.
Notebook: Kennedy Catholic will attempt to become the first Pennsylvania school to win five straight state titles. The Golden Eagles' current four titles, over Reading Holy Name, Bishop Hannan (twice) and Fairfield, match those of Carlisle, which won between 1985-88 in Quad-A. Leading the Kennedy Catholic attack is senior guards Nolan Reimold (6-4) and Dan McElhinny (6-0). Reimold, who will play baseball at Bowling Green, scored 30 points in the team's 69-64 victory over Monessen in the state semifinal game. McElhinny has committed to play basketball at Division I Eastern Michigan. The other starters are senior forward Phil Doyle (6-3), senior guard Cory Wittway (5-10) and junior forward Ramone Truxon (6-4). Tim Loomis is the first-year head coach. He is assisted by George Burich, a former longtime City Series coach, and Rick McGee, a former assistant at Rayen. Scotland won back-to-back state titles in the 1994-95 seasons. Scotland, Loomis said, is comparable to George Junior Republic -- deep and athletic, with Div. I talent.
