On the rebound

On the rebound
For the longest time, I'd been trying to persuade my boyfriend to come watch one of my soccer games to see what an awesome player I am. He finally agreed. At the beginning of the game, I made a goal and during the kickoff, I gave him a thumbs-up. While I was still grinning at him, the ball came straight at me and hit me in the face. Everyone in the crowd laughed. Eventually, people forgot about it. But when the school yearbook came out, there, for all to see, was a color picture of a soccer ball bouncing off the side of my face!
Parent trap
I was on the phone with the object of my affection, talking about an upcoming dance. Everything was going really well. Just as I was getting ready to ask him to the dance, my mom picked up the phone and said, "OK, Sweet Pea, it's time get off the phone. But I'm going to let you stay on a few minutes more because you're talking to that boy. I'll hang up now, Pumpkin." I was speechless.
Camp crush
At camp last summer, I met the guy of my dreams. To get him to notice me, one day I just happened to walk by his table during dinner. As I went by carrying my plate of food, I casually looked over my shoulder to grin at him. He smiled back at me and then -- whack! I walked into a pole and spilled my plate of mashed potatoes on my brand-new black shirt. When I looked around, I saw the entire mess hall -- including my crush -- was laughing. I ran out, humiliated beyond belief.
