MAC/SVC Bulldogs get revenge in Irish rematch

Canfield opened its season with a win.
POLAND -- When Ursuline knocked Poland out of the Division II sectional softball tournament in the first round last spring, the Bulldogs put the Irish squarely in the center of their sights.
Friday, Poland opened the season with a 19-0 win over Ursuline in a game called after five innings.
Last year in the tournament, Ursuline's pitcher, Erin Zubal, got the win over Poland's Sarah Knill.
Switching roles: Friday, Knill threw a one-hitter, while Zubal took the setback.
Only one Ursuline batter reached base, with a one-out single in the fifth, but she was picked off.
Knill, a junior, struck out six and faced the minimum 15 batters.
Poland had a 21-hit attack.
Aslyne Rodriguez had four hits, including a triple, while Katie Naumoff had two singles and a double and Michelle Nespeca had three singles.
Stephanie Russell, who doubled, and Nespeca each had four RBIs, while Heidi Kimmell also tripled.
Canfield 9, Fitch 4: AUSTINTOWN -- Lindsay Gaudiose threw a complete-game four-hitter and went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored as the Cardinals opened their season.
Julie Playforth added a single and a double with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Trisha McHenry and Kelly Williams each had two hits for Canfield.
Canfield scored single runs in three innings to knot the score 3-3 after four, but a six-run fifth put the decision out of sight.
