Lisbon man diesin one-car accident
LISBON -- Paul Weber, 56, of 503 N. Beaver St., died in a one-car accident at 10:19 a.m. Saturday on state Route 164, north of Lisbon.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said he was southbound when his vehicle went off the road and struck a garage. The cause is under investigation, but authorities say Weber may have suffered a heart attack.
Youth shot in knee
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left knee while walking home from his girlfriend's house on Foster Street, police said.
The Otis Street boy told police he heard at least three gunshots about 2 a.m. Saturday, then felt a sharp pain in his knee.
Thermal imaging
WEATHERSFIELD -- Firefighters from Weathersfield, Liberty and Vienna townships will test thermal imaging cameras in a training exercise at 6:30 p.m. Monday on Ninth Avenue off McDonald Avenue in the Hilltop section of Weathersfield.
The departments are looking to buy such cameras. Seven vendors from across the country are scheduled to attend. Thermal imaging cameras can detect people and pets in dark, smoky situations.
Drug charges filed
COITSVILLE -- A Youngstown man is to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday on three counts of possession of drugs.
Coitsville police said they stopped David W. Minich, 33, of Catalina Ave., at 5:18 p.m. Friday on McGuffey Road and found cocaine in his pocket and wallet and marijuana in his car.
He also is charged with speeding, fictitious plates, and no driver's license.
Youth gangs to be topic
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youth gangs will be the subject of a presentation by FBI Agent Mike Cizmar at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Southern Boulevard Block Watch meeting in Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 3919 Southern Blvd.
Cizmar belongs to the unit that conducted the 10-month investigation leading to the indictment earlier this month of 14 members of Youngstown's Ayers Street Playas on criminal gang activity and drug trafficking charges.
Oral history programfor Ohio bicentennial
YOUNGSTOWN -- Plans for a touring oral history program in observance of Ohio's bicentennial will be the topic of an informational meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, 648 Wick Ave.
The National Endowment for the Humanities has given The Wallpaper Project, a Wapakaneta-based history and theater program, a grant to determine the potential for a play, with a cast of professional actors and actresses and local talent, that would travel to 50 Ohio locations from March to December 2003.
