Labor talks stallat career center
CHAMPION -- Administrators and staff at Trumbull Career and Technical Center are at an impasse with contract negotiations.
Union officials say a mediator will be called in soon when the two sides go back to the table.
Superintendent Dianne Kenzie said recently both sides are prohibited under a previous contract from discussing details of negotiations with the press.
Trumbull Career and Technical Center is the former Trumbull County Joint Vocational School.
All TCTC employees, with the exception of adult education instructors, are represented by Trumbull County Joint Vocational Education Association.
Kenzie did say employees are working under a contract extension and that lately it's been difficult for both sides to find time to schedule talks.
The union's pact expired June 30. Kenzie also said negotiations began in the spring. The union represents employees including teachers, secretaries and aides.
Stadium break-in
SALEM -- Thieves broke windows at the Reilly Stadium concession stand, entered the building and took candy from it, police said. The theft was reported at 10:50 a.m. Monday.
Smoke disrupts classes
WARREN -- A faulty furnace disrupted classes at Emerson Elementary School. Firefighters said smoke began coming out of the furnace after the motor broke around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The fire department used fans to get the smoke out of the building and the pupils were sent back to class, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Sharon break-in
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said someone forced open a window to break into Jeff's West Side Beverage Co. at 110 N. Water Ave. Sunday night. An undetermined amount of loose and rolled change and several beer taps were taken, police said.
Fire investigated
WARREN -- Firefighters are investigating a blaze that caused $45,000 worth of damage to a home at 140 Nevada Ave. N.W.
The blaze started around 9:20 a.m. Monday, firefighters said. The fire started in the kitchen of the home, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Man held in rape
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police arrested Robert Shannonhouse, 31, of George Street at Farrell High School football field on a warrant charging him with rape and assault.
Shannonhouse is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in June. He was arrested on school grounds at 9:30 p.m. Friday and arraigned before District Justice Ruth French on charges of rape, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment. Police also added a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana after they said they found a small amount of the drug on Shannonhouse when they arrested him. He was freed after posting $25,000 bond.
Block Watch meeting
GIRARD -- Fourth Ward Block Watch will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Multigeneration Center, the former Tod Woods Intermediate School, on Trumbull Avenue.
Underage drinking
COITSVILLE -- A 17-year-old Hubbard boy found sleeping in the southbound lane of North Hubbard Road about 2 a.m. Saturday was charged with underage consumption. The Hubbard boy was released to his mother.
The Chestnut Ridge Avenue boy told township police that he'd had a few beers at home and then went to a friend's house on North Hubbard Road to spend the evening after the Hubbard football game. The teen-ager couldn't explain how he ended up on the road, police said.
