Grand jury indicts man in accident that killed woman
LISBON -- A Columbiana County grand jury indicted Steven Harpold, 37, of New Brighton, Pa., on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, in the March 5 traffic accident that killed an East Palestine woman.
The indictment says Harpold operated his vehicle in a manner that caused the death of Louella Baker, 66, of 5046 state Route 170.
Further details on what led to the indictment were unavailable Friday.
Passenger: At the time of the accident, authorities said Baker was a passenger in a car driven by Farahjon Monac, 16, of East Palestine.
Monac was driving north on state Route 170 near Negley when his vehicle collided with a vehicle driven south by Harpold.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post said Harpold's vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and went left of center, colliding with Monac's vehicle.
Baker died March 8 as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.
Harpold was arraigned Thursday on the charge in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court and is free on personal recognizance bond.
