FIESTA BOWL Ohio State notebook

Attendance: The crowd of 77,502 was the third-largest in Fiesta Bowl history.
Legend's son: Miami running back Jarrett Payton, who played in the fourth quarter following Willis McGahee's injury, is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Walter Payton.
Ticket demand: Many of the Ohio State fans who arrived in Tempe without tickets for the game were still searching close to game time. One fan said he was still willing to go as high as $400 per ticket about two hours prior to kickoff. Tickets being sold on e-bay Friday were still asking $2,200 per ticket.
Heads up: As Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Miami coach Larry Coker exchanged a handshake and pleasantries during pre-game warmups, an errant punt landed perilously close to the two men. Coker jumped enough that his hat fell off. The coaches quickly finished their conversation and moved to safer ground.
Pre-game: In addition to performances by both schools' marching bands, the Air Force's Wings of Blue, a five-man parachuting crew, delivered the flags of both schools, sponsors of the game and the American flag.
Mr. Heisman: Eight college football legends were introduced prior to the game. The largest ovation went to Ohio State's Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy. In fact, the other seven notables greeted Griffin at midfield by bowing to him in the manner of "Wayne's World" ("We're not worthy").
Not many close games: During Miami's 34-game winning streak, only four were decided by 10 points or less.
Ohio State tidbits: Chris Gamble participated in 120 of the game's 178 plays -- 77 on defense, 32 on offense and 11 on special teams. ... Krenzel's 81 rushing yards was a career best. ... Krenzel's 57-yard pass to Gamble was the longest allowed by Miami all season. ... Freshman offensive tackle Rob Sims started in place of junior Ivan Douglas.
On Miami: Friday's game marked the first time Miami was held to under 10 points in the first half of a game since the loss to Washington in September 2000. That was the 'Canes' last loss before the Fiesta Bowl.
