Closing for funeral

Closing for funeral
LIBERTY -- All schools will be closed here Monday for the funeral of longtime teacher Chester Hlasta, who died Friday.
Hlasta was a Liberty graduate who began teaching in the district right out of college. He taught social studies for many years and more recently was the work-study program coordinator.
School officials said classes are being called off Monday because not enough substitutes could be found for teachers who want to attend the services.
Assault investigated
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 51-year-old East Side man was arrested after punching a security guard in city hall, police said. The Shehy Street man had been to the department of taxation demanding a check.
A department employee told police he had been there three times requesting a check he is not entitled to receive. When a security guard came to the office, the man punched and pushed him, breaking the guard's glasses, according to police.
The man faces an assault charge.
Sawyer endorsed
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Education association has endorsed U.S. Rep. Tom Sawyer of Akron, D-14th, in the race for the 17th Congressional District seat. The endorsement was announced on the steps of Beeghly Hall at Youngstown State University.
