CHAMPON BOARD OF EDUCATION

CHAMPON BOARD OF EDUCATION
Educators exchange the following ideas Monday about the future of Champion schools:
*Dr. John Robertson, director of instructional research at Kent State University Trumbull Campus, challenged board members to think about what they'd like to see in the future of education.
*Robertson wants to see that all students are educationally prepared for post secondary education.
* Board member Jack Mahan said he'd like to see wood shop and some similar training classes returned to the curriculum.
*Mahon noted that the increase in state graduation requirements is putting a crimp in the Trumbull Career Technical Center students' ability to learn the trades they went there to learn.
SPRINGFIELD TRUSTEES
Four bids for a new ambulance, ranging from $88,000 to $102,000, will be reviewed by township fire and emergency response personnel. The bids were opened at a township trustee meeting Wednesday.
In other action:
* Trustees will advertise for bids for paving Beaver-Springfield and Kibler roads.
*Police Officer Charles Butler resigned to take a position with the county sheriff's department. Butler had been with the department for more than a decade.
SEBRING COUNCIL
Municipal water and sewer customers will still see a 1-percent annual increase Sunday after two & quot;temporary moratorium & quot; measures failed to pass as emergencies during Monday's regular council meeting.
Council members voted 4-2, with Councilmen Bob Crewson and Michael Seidel voting no to the emergency measures, meaning two more votes at separate meetings will be required to enact them into law.
A rate study, which they expect to cost a total of $25,000, would examine rates, possible improvements to the system and individual function of the plants.
FARRELL COUNCIL
City council is seeking engineers interested in doing a feasibility study looking at the consolidation of sanitary sewer facilities in the Shenango Valley.
The Intergovernmental Study Committee looking at the possibility of consolidating five municipalities -- Farrell, Sharon, Hermitage, Wheatland and Sharpsville -- wants to include a look at consolidating the sanitary sewer facilities run by those communities.
