NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A ceramic piece titled "Temple Jar" by Robert Isenberg of Mercer, Pa., has been named best in show in the 28th annual Hoyt Regional Art Exhibition at Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave. Forty-nine works in various mediums were accepted. The show will be open from May 14 to June 14, with an artists' reception from 2 to 4 p.m. May 19.
Receiving honorable merit awards are Sean McConnor of Greenville, Pa.; Andrew Sorbo Jr. of New Castle; Christine Loree of Boardman; Jennifer Phillips of Franklin, Pa.; Myrna Ortinberg of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and Joshua Miletta of Lowellville. Recipients of director's choice awards are Andrew Hazelton of Grove City, Pa.; Mary Jean Milich of Butler, Pa.; Tammy Bauder of Ellwood City, Pa.; Richard Nene of New Castle; and Corinne Bishara-Bako of Boardman.
Students to perform
YOUNGSTOWN -- Students from YSU Dana Vocal Performance Clinic will perform classic music and Broadway show tunes at 7:30 p.m. May 17 in Bliss Recital Hall. Performers will be Stena Buck, Samantha Schidmantle, Amanda Adams, Randi Harding and Amanda Beagle, who will be a Miss Ohio contestant in June. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, or $8 for YSU students with valid identification. Reservations will be accepted through Friday. Proceeds will go to scholarships for high school students who want to attend Dana Vocal Performance Clinic's 2002 summer workshop in August.
Children's festival set
PITTSBURGH -- Brazil, Canada, Germany, Papua New Guinea and the United States will be represented at International Children's Festival 2002 from May 15 to 19 in West Park and Allegheny Center. Highlights will be Afro-Brazilian dance group Ach & eacute; Brasil; juggler and stunt man Flyin' Bob Palmer of Saskatoon, Canada; the daredevil opera company Circus Inferno, also from Canada; the classic fairy tale "Snow White," featuring nearly life-sized puppets from Germany's Lille Kartofler Figurentheater; Makoda, a drum band from the South Pacific; African stories by Queen Nur and Kala Jojo; and children's musician Laurie Berkner. Mozart marathon
BOARDMAN -- "Absolutely Amadeus," a Mozart marathon featuring concerto, operatic and symphonic numbers, will be Seraphin's final concert of the season. The program will be at 8 p.m. May 18 at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St.
