Players honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kevin Tuminello of Boardman, Tom Banna of Canfield and Kelvin Hope of Canton Timken are the Butler Wick Scholar-Athletes of the week.
Tuminello, a 6-4, 260 pound center for the Spartans football team, graded 88 percent blocking and had four sack assists last week while carrying a 3.92 grade point average to lead the Steel Valley Conference.
Banna, a 5-10, 184-pound linebacker-fullback for the Cardinals, was the Metro Athletic Conference selection. He carries a 4.0 grade point average.
Hope, a 5-11, 191 pound fullback-linebacker, rushed for three TDs and 207 yards while making 10 tackles. He also caused a fumble and recovered one to head the City Series honors.
Bolden to speakin McDonald
MCDONALD -- The Rev. Rickey Bolden, a former member of the Cleveland Browns, will be the speaker at a community worship celebration to be held at the McDonald High School auditorium Saturday at 7 p.m.

Koppel 35that Winthrop
ROCK HILL, S. Carolina -- Kara Koppel, a 1999 graduate of McDonald High School, finished in 35th place in a field of 304 runners in the Great American Cross Country Festival, held at Winthrop University.
Running for Coastal Carolina, which took eighth place with 282 points, Koppel had a time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds in the 5K race.
There were 31 teams in the race, including eight nationally ranked. North Carolina won the race, trailed by Brigham Young, North Carolina and Arkansas.
Flag footballevent slated
AUSTINTOWN -- The League of Champions Sports Programs will sponsor a Let-It-Fly 4-on-4 Flag Football Tournament at St. Anne's Church and School on Oct. 13-14.
The event is open to youths ages 12-17 and 18-year olds still in high school but not participating on prep football teams.
On Oct. 13, a skills contest for youths ages 8-18 will take place.

Browns setfor fundraiser
WARREN -- Two members of the current Cleveland Browns football team will appear at the Ohio Browns Boosters get together at the Ground Round in Warren on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Running back Ben Gay and receiver Quincy Morgan will be there to help raise proceeds for the Red Cross/New York Relief Fund.

Baseball campset at Cafaro
NILES -- A Prospect Baseball Camp will take place at Cafaro Field on Oct. 14. The event is open to high school students, age 15-18.
The camp begins at 8 a.m. and will run until 6 p.m. There is a limit of 60 players.

Carnegie daycare
PITTSBURGH -- Carnegie Science Center is adding a new play to the playbook. For all remaining Steelers day home games, a Game Day Mini Camp will be offered to parents attending the game who are looking for fun, convenient alternative for their children while they're cheering on the Steelers.
Fee is $60 and includes game-day parking at Carnegie Science Center.
The camp is geared for students in grades kindergarten through six and runs from noon to 5 p.m. Campers will be able to explore exhibits, see theater shows and roll up their sleeves for fun hands-on science experiments.

Iverson out
PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson and Aaron McKie both had surgery and will not be able to play for the Philadelphia 76ers for at least a month.
Iverson, the NBA's MVP who led the 76ers to the Finals last season, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after an arthroscopic operation on his right elbow. He probably will be ready for the season opener Oct. 30.
McKie, the league's top sixth man, had a similar procedure on his right shoulder and will be out 6-to-8 weeks.
