TIFFIN -- For the second time this school year, freshman Kelly Frankford from Tiffin University and Girard High will be in a national NAIA tournament game.
Frankford, a 5-foot-8 post player for the Tiffin women's basketball team, has helped the Dragons to qualify for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time.
Tiffin's first game in the NAIA tournament, slated in Sioux City, Iowa, will be Wednesday against an as yet unnamed opponent.
Soccer: Just last fall, Frankford helped the Tiffin women's soccer team qualify for the NAIA national meet in Miami, Fla.
The Dragons lost in the first round to top-ranked Azusa Pacific, 4-0, to place 13th in the nation.
Frankford missed the first six games of the basketball season in order to participate in her soccer team's extended season.
She helped the soccer team to an 18-1 record, and to its third straight AMC regular season and tournament championships.
Basketball: In basketball, Tiffin advanced to the NAIA meet with a 77-75 win at St. Vincent College, in an American Mideast Conference Tournament semifinal.
However, the Dragons then lost to top-rated Shawnee State, 81-60, last Tuesday in the AMC final for a 14-14 record.
Tiffin was 9-9 in the AMC during the regular season.
Shawnee secured an automatic bid to the national tourney by winning the AMC regular season championship.
Stats: Frankford is averaging 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds, and is shooting a team-second-best 46.7 percent from the field.
She has been playing 16.3 minutes a game on the average, but this has increased recently to 20-to-30 minutes.
Against St. Vincent, Frankford scored 13 points and had four rebounds and three steals.
And in a Feb. 20 game at Malone, she tied for team scoring honors with 13 points in a 70-65 win.
The daughter of Cindy and Mike Frankford, Kelly is majoring in liberal studies.
